About Africa CDC

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) is the public health agency of the African Union. It supports member states to strengthen their public health institutions and to prevent, detect and respond to disease threats. The AU Assembly decided to establish it in 2016, and it was launched in January 2017. A 2022 statute made it an autonomous health agency. It is headquartered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and has five Regional Coordinating Centres in Egypt, Gabon, Kenya, Nigeria and Zambia.

Vacancies are published on the African Union recruitment portal, jobs.au.int, and are open to nationals of AU member states. Many posts are fixed-term contracts, often for one year and renewable depending on funding and performance. Africa CDC also recruits country representatives and fellows, including through the Africa Epidemic Services Fellowship.

Why Join Africa CDC

Staff work on disease surveillance, laboratory systems, emergency preparedness and response, public health research, vaccine and medicines manufacturing, the health workforce, health diplomacy and corporate management. Most positions are at headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with others in the five Regional Coordinating Centres and in country offices in AU member states.
